San Marino is an enclave in Italy, on the border between the regions of Emilia Romagna and Marche. It is is the third-smallest country in Europe, with only Vatican City and Monaco smaller. Monte Titano is the highest peak in San Marino, in the Apennines. It stands at 749 m and is located immediately to the east of the capital, San Marino. According to legend, Saint Marinus founded San Marino as a village on the limestone mountain. The mountain has three peaks - on each are one of The Three Towers of San Marino.
